His Excellency [12 Nov 2009|07:11pm] bookshare [shardofnarsil] [ mood | annoyed ] His Excellency: George Washington by Joseph J. Ellis My rating: 3 of 5 stars One of the best Presidential biographies I've read - Ellis gets to the point, covering all the major events in Washington's life, and keeping a good blend of personal and political stuff. Washington was a fascinating guy. He knew his place in history and did everything he could to maintain the "above the fray", regal stature. Right now the thing that stands out (only because it was mentioned towards the end of the book) is a fun fact - Washington had a nephew named Bushrod. That is the weirdest name ever, but cool. Anyway, back to the book. Ellis does a great job of writing about our first President's life. He (Washington, that is) seemed to be able to predict how our budding nation would end up, and knew what needed to be done for it to happen. Really interesting stuff. ( IT'S MILEY!!!!!!!! ) 1A. I completely missed Metro Station's set because, well, that was the day Kris Allen's album hit the Internet, and frankly getting it on a CD was more of a priority than leaving the house on time. 2. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS BUT THIS WAS THE BEST TWEET OF THE WEEK: I just really enjoy the fact that I spent ten minutes trying to figure out what "tears" was a reference to before having the ultimate headdesk realization that it was from his own show. [HANDS DOWN THE BEST TV SERIES EVER TO LAST ONLY 22 MINUTES, Y'ALL.] [Also, seriously, those dog videos...tears.] 3. The only TV shows I have watched this week were HIMYM and Glee, both of which were awesome. I'm really excited to see where they're going with HIMYM for the first time all season. As for Glee, I think it's time we remembered, as an Internet, that shows can be good and fun and awesome and delightful without being great or particularly deep. It's not Glee's fault that Fox built our expectations over the course of five or six months, and the sooner we accept that it's not going to get any deeper this season, the sooner we can cry ourselves silly over every scene involving Kurt's dad Mike O'Malley (who really misses his dead wife Mo) without spoiling the moment by wondering why they didn't handle other things better. 4.
